The average person doesn't buy quantities such as you state.

Find a buddy to split an order & split up the HM even more. Yes you have to buy in quantity, but even if you only shoot 100rds a month, the components don't go bad. Precision Delta has 115gr FMJ for $83/k shipped. So there is just one source of 8c bullets. Xteme bullets has 115gr RN for $80/1000 delivered to your door. If you buy once fired & amortize the cost over 10x reloaded, adds less than 1c per round.
CHEAP 9MM BRASS FREE
BTW, brass is free for the scrounging at many ranges. If you are buying 1# of powder & 1k primers & bullets by the 100, you aren't saving much in your reloading. We won't talk about the stuff you ordered say 5-6yrs ago that was cheaper, making your per round cost less still, but I like to quote what is available. You can currently buy plated or jacketed 9mm for 8c or less each buying at least 2k. PV has CCI $27/k, less than 3c each added to a powder order.
CHEAP 9MM BRASS PLUS
So cheaper to order on line plus I always add primers, need them or not. Locally, $181.50 if I drive the 60m round trip to buy it locally. If all I ordered was that, I never do but lets say, $181 for the powder shipped to my door. I still get my primers less than $30 to my door. Buy ten units, 1k primers or 1# of powder is a unit, that is less than $3/unit. You save on the sales tax, which often offsets shipping. S&H + HM can be cheaper than buying components local, if you buy enough. I don't figure sales tax, you pay that buying ammo locally. I have have a zinger or two with 410 shot shells. Luckily I have never had a failure like the ones shown at the beginning of this thread and hope I never do. And the guy buying new doesn't have to worry about the problems like the brass one this thread is all about. So for the average shooter it is just as cheap to buy new or nearly so with no work to perform to get decent ammo. So your figures are skewed in your favor because you load and buy components probably as cheaply as possible. Maybe not for you and me.but the average. For most reloaders loading say a 9mm FMJ 115 gr load the cost is pretty much 15-17 cents each. In the instance you gave above just for hazmat fees at 20 dollars That figures at 2 dollars per M on primers and 2 dollars a pound on powder extra cost(8lbs powder 2 m primers). But you order powder and primers to be delivered and you still USUALLY have a hazmat fee. Primers are for me closest to the prices you quote. So don't always use the cheapest for the caliber. Maybe I am different but I try to load more than 2 calibers with the same powder so I can reduce the herd somewhat.

in less than 1000 lots 10 cents would be cheap. Luckily not twice the money but still more expensive. 224 bullets is still over 7 cents each and 9mm FMJs are twice the weight. Don't buy many bulk bullets in handgun cals but 6000 rounds of FMJ 55 gr. We do have some really good prices on cast and plated bullets now though. Prices have really risen in the last few years on components. The average of loading costs is considerably higher than you pay I'm sorry to say. Yur figures are still a bit low but The average person has to add in more money for lower quantities and shipping or tax if bought locally. But most people don't buy as you and I do. And we have to say.it is in your best interest to buy in large quantities(I do too). Include the other time in your reloadaing. Which btw, less than 30min reloading a week.ītw, you can buy jacketed from RMR or Precision cheaper than played from Berry's or Xtreme most days. So I can't afford not to reload & only shoot about 1000rds a month. I don't make $145k a year & doubt many of you guys do either. That means I would have to make about $70/hr gross to buy the ammo vs make it.

Even if we back it down to 600rds, pretty slow one handle pull every 6sec, the time value is still considerable. If I need to, I can crank 700rds per hour on my 650 & that includes loading the primers up. Buying in small quantities means you are paying more. You can get about 1800 rds per # with red dot vs 1250 for power pistol, you can do the math. If you are just punching paper, faster powders give you more bang for the $$$. A minimum purchase would be 8# of powder, 5k primers & 2k bullets. Casting & coating my own, less than 5c each. Powder is less than 1.5c max per round, depending on powder & charge wt. Bullets can be had for 8-9c each, depending on weight, shipping & quantity. You are paying waaaaay to much for powder. I have about a penny per round in my cast bullets, so I figure I'm around $8.50 per hundred on 9mm. Where do you get plated bullets for 4 or 5 cents? Or do you have an inside track on primer or powder? for 9mm primer and powder run into about 7 or 8 cents per round.
